São Paulo-headquartered Itaú Unibanco has named its new head of investor relations.

Alexsandro Broedel Lopes, executive finance, market risk and liquidity officer since 2015, is stepping up to succeed Marcelo Kopel, who is moving on to serve as the bank’s executive officer for the cards and vehicles division.

Lopes graduated from Universidade de São Paulo with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and law, and has a PhD in accounting and finance from Manchester Business School. He’s been a member of the B3-listed firm’s disclosure and trading committee since October 2013.

Kopel joined the bank in 2014 as corporate controller and IR manager, and was promoted to IR director in 2015. Prior to this he worked as a CFO for the Brazilian branches of various financial institutions including ING, Bank of America and Citibank.

During Kopel’s tenure, as well as that of predecessor Rogério Calderón, Itaú won numerous trophies at the IR Magazine Awards – Brazil, most recently taking home the grand prix for best overall investor relations (large cap). The bank also made this year’s Global Top 50 Silver list.
