Jennifer Ramsey, senior IR manager at London-listed tobacco company Imperial Brands, was one of the panelists at the recent IR Magazine Forum – AI for IR event held last week.
Her session explored how AI can help uncover new investors, the importance of reliable data for targeting work and the broader discussion about AI taking place within companies.
While Imperial Brands is not currently using AI for investor targeting, Ramsey says she sees potential for AI to help with this tricky task.
‘When we think about AI and what it could do for institutional investor targeting, we could look back to the iPhone in 2008,’ she says.
‘At that time, nobody used the iPhone and we all used maps to get around. Now we can use a map on our iPhone and it's down to a granular level – [it] could take me from A to B very easily.
‘It would be fantastic if, looking forward in terms of investor targeting, AI could do that map for us as well and have that level of detail. But, clearly, it's in the future.’
