Clean Harbors names Sharon Merrill partner to lead IR

Jim Buckley appointed senior vice president of IR and corporate communications at environmental, energy and industrial services firm

Clean Harbors, a major provider of environmental, energy and industrial services – including chemical cleaning, oil recycling and the disposal of hazardous waste – has brought in seasoned IRO Jim Buckley to lead and develop its new investor relations program.

The active NIRI member fills the newly created role of senior vice president of investor relations and corporate communications at Clean Harbors after 19 years at Sharon Merrill. During his time at the IR consultancy firm, Buckley managed various corporate communications issues and oversaw investor relations programs at a range of companies, including Clean Harbors, according to a press statement announcing his move.

‘We are familiar with him and his abilities from our long-standing relationship with Sharon Merrill,’ explains James Rutledge, vice chairman, president and CFO of Clean Harbors, in the statement, adding that Buckley was the ‘logical choice’ when the company decided to expand with the new IR and communications position. ‘[Buckley] will play an important role in shaping our messaging and facilitating external and internal communications. He will be a valuable resource for both Wall Street and our employee base.’

The journalism graduate, who worked at the Eagle Times in Claremont, New Hampshire before joining Sharon Merrill, also keeps busy with extracurricular IR activities, serving as an adjunct professor of IR at Boston University for several years as well as guest-lecturing on corporate communications issues at a number of other colleges.

Joining NIRI in 1997, Buckley has presented at the institute’s seminars as well as at Public Relations Society of America meetings, and was a speaker at both the 2011 and 2012 NIRI national conferences.
