Open Text recommends specialist knowledge for new IROs

Greg Secord says a strong foundation of corporate and industry knowledge is vital

Early immersion in a company, its products and its operations is essential, and over time will establish the credibility of an IRO, says Greg Secord, vice president of investor relations at Open Text. Listen to shareholders and analysts, he continues, as these will often provide new IROS with advice that may not appear in research reports.

In the longer term, IROs should consider themselves the voice of the shareholder within the company, Secord adds. By accumulating knowledge expertise on shareholders, you will have senior management looking to the IR department to gauge shareholder response to key decisions, he explains.
