PotashCorp advises IR professionals to focus on the big picture

Tim Harrod provides suggestions for the new IR professional

Take a strategic approach, says Tim Harrod, IR manager for PotashCorp, because IROs need breadth and depth of thinking to achieve their many long-term objectives.

Remaining calm in an unpredictable market is also key, he says. Though circumstances may change, IROs must maintain effective communications between management and shareholders, remaining focused on the long term.

In addition, IR professionals should have an attitude of continuous improvement, Harrod notes. Expectations – of the investment community, of senior management and boards – are always evolving, so focus on raising standards and making best use of resources.
