IRO of 15 years promoted at Swiss telecoms major
Swisscom has promoted deputy head of IR Louis Schmid to lead the department following the departure of Bart Morselt.
Louis Schmid is promoted to top IR job at Swisscom
Schmid joined the Worblaufen-headquartered firm’s IR team 15 years ago after earlier roles at STG Asset Management. He graduated from the University of Bern with a licentiate in economics and social sciences and from the Institut für Finanzdienstleistungen in Zug with a master’s degree in corporate finance. He also holds the Swiss certifications for financial analysts and investment advisers.
Schmid has been chairman of Swisscom’s comPlan investment committee and member of the foundation board of the Swisscom pension fund since 2008, and has also been a board member of Swisscom Immobilien since 2011.
A Dutch national, Morselt will be heading back to his home country to take on a new IR role, according to a company press release. The University of Groningen graduate joined Swisscom in 2000 from KPN, where he had held senior roles in financial controlling. He also served as head of IR for the Czech Republic’s fixed-line operator Cesky Telecom, now part of O2, from 1996 to 1998.
Swisscom, which resulted from the 1988 privatization of the former state monopoly Post Telegraph Telephone, has been listed on SIX Swiss Exchange since 1998, with the Swiss Confederation still holding a majority stake.
